Old Town Cape will host the fourth annual Downtown Historic Home & Garden Tour on Saturday, May 18 from noon to 4 p.m. Six homes will be showcased during the tour that was organized by Old Town Cape and sponsored by Realty Executives. The owners of each home will give a guided tour through their spaces, highlighting special features and historic facts.
The homes are located at 740 North Street (The Oliver-Leming House), 609 Broadway (The Broadway Loft), 107 N. Frederick (The Schott Home), 25 N. Fountain (The Becking Home), 115 N. Fountain (Vasterling Suites) and 245 Aquamsi (The Hutson Condo). The bonus home is located at 340 S. Lorimier (The Huhn-Harrison Home/West Bank Bistro).
Tickets for the tour are $15 in advance and are available at Old Town Cape (418 Broadway), Annie Laurie's Antiques (536 Broadway), Spanish Street Mercantile (26 N. Spanish) and Realty Executives (2511 Independence). The day of the tour, tickets will be sold at the Oliver-Leming House and will cost $20.

The Cape Riverfront Market will run on Saturday mornings May 4 through October 26 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot at 35 S. Spanish, across from Bel-Air Grill and Grass Roots BMW. The lot will be closed to vehicles from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday to accommodate the event.
The market will include over 30 vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses, nuts, honey, maple syrup, jams, breads, baked goods, coffee and a variety of arts and crafts. All products are locally grown or produced. Each week there will also be demonstrations and entertainment. SNAP/EBT cards will also be accepted for qualifying food at the market tent. Tunes at Twilight is an award winning outdoor concert series held on Friday nights at the Common Pleas Courthouse Gazebo (Lorimier and Broadway) in Cape Girardeau. Every week for six weeks in the spring and six weeks in the fall, hour long concerts are held showcasing a variety of artists. The event is sponsored by Southeast Health, FOX 23 KBSI and Cape Air. Additional grant assistance is provided through the Missouri Arts Council. In case of rain, the indoor location will be at Rose Theater on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. If the concert is moved indoors, an announcement will be made on our Home page no later than 4 p.m.
The 2013 Great Race, a time speed endurance rally for vintage cars, is coming to Cape Girardeau! Cape Girardeau, MO will host an overnight stop on the 2013 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty on Tuesday, June 25th. The race starts in St. Paul, MN at the State Fairgrounds and weaves its way down the Mississippi River toward the Gulf of Mexico through 10 states. The race crosses the river a dozen times and finishes in Mobile, AL on June 30th.
Cars will arrive in Cape Girardeau on June 25th after 5 p.m. at one minute intervals for more than an hour and a half, and will stay parked in downtown Cape Girardeau so that everyone can visit with the participants and check out the cars. Cars built prior to 1969 are eligible, with most entries being manufactured before WWII.
A coloring contest will also be held for kids 12 and under and the coloring sheet and entry form can be downloaded here. Completed sheets and forms can be dropped off at any of the six Capaha Bank branches to be entered in a random drawing for a surprise race day prize package! The drawing will be held on the day of the event and the winner will be contacted via phone.
