Transforming Vintage Clip-Ons to Post Earrings

There are so many stunning options when it comes to clip-on earrings. More often than not you can find these gems for under $5 at local antique shops, and if you're really lucky you might even have some heirloom clip-ons from a family member.

I have at least ten sets stashed away that I've found while antiquing over the years. Unfortunately, after an hour of wearing them my ears are screaming.

Recently, I discovered that Sloan + Themis - a custom jewelry & bead connoisseur shop on Main Street - offers a service in which they transform Clip-On Earrings into Post-Back Earrings!!

I was super excited for this option of comfort and had to give it a try. I called up the shop owner, Claire Bruce, and asked her how much the service cost and was stoked to find out it was only $10. I told her I'd be by the next day to drop off a pair of earrings I had recently picked at Brick Street Gallery- a great antique shop on Spanish Street. (I found the clip-ons there for $3!)

My cute sea-foam green, clip-ons were dropped off on a Wednesday and the same beauties were ready 2 days later in post-back form. They are so comfortable, and they look great! I'll definitely be digging out some of my other favorites to be transformed soon.

Join the fun at Tunes at Twilight!

Tunes at Twilight is back!

Grab your family, friends (even if they're four-legged and furry), comfiest lawn chairs, a picnic basket full of snacks, and come on down to the Common Pleas Courthouse Gazebo (Lorimier and Broadway) in Cape Girardeau to enjoy a brand new season of musical talent. Our all-star lineup of musical talent this year includes many returning fan favorites, as well as new musical talent sure to captivate and impress. If you love good music, an inviting atmosphere, and friendly people, Tunes at Twilight on Friday evenings is where you need to be!

This Friday showcases the talent of Corinne Chapman. She is an extraordinary musician who last performed at Tunes in 2010 has opened for Don Williams, Montgomery Gentry, Jason Aldean, and Little Big Town among others. We’re very excited to hear her perform and hope you’ll come on down and join us in the fun this Friday at 7pm!

Old Town Cape has launched a blog, and you are reading our very first post!

We, your trusty blog committee, have come together to plan and orchestrate this blog of behalf of Old Town Cape for downtown Cape Girardeau. Here you’ll get the scoop on downtown events, downtown shops, downtown life and downtown everything! Plus, we’ll be writing about trends relating to downtown merchandise as well as how-to guides.

Our goal is to help you enjoy life more by getting downtown! Shop local boutiques. Enjoy a fresh meal at a local restaurant. Take a relaxing walk by the river. Explore the unique history you can only find downtown.
We’ll show you how life is so much better with downtown in it! And if you’re a downtowner, you already know…but we’ll help you find even more downtown pizzazz!
